Sevenyear Join the pilot list

Seven years of bank statements, checked and on the record.

Sevenyear reads a deceased person's bank statements, flags the likely lifetime gifts for the executor to confirm, and prepares a draft IHT403 schedule. Every account and month is either covered or recorded as a gap.

Statements don't label anything as a gift.

When someone dies, gifts they made in the seven years before death can count towards inheritance tax, and when a full account is needed the executor lists them on HMRC's form IHT403. Today someone goes through up to 84 months of statements for each account, usually with a highlighter.

No fixed fee

Several firms' price pages take estates with lifetime gifts, or the full tax account they trigger, out of their fixed fees.2

How it works

Your team stays in charge of every decision. Sevenyear does the first pass and the write-up.

  1. Gather

Upload the statements you have. Sevenyear spots missing months and accounts that appear in transfers but weren't supplied, and drafts the request letter to each bank.

  2. Read

Every page is read by two different models and checked against its own balances. Pages that don't add up, or where the readings disagree, are flagged for your team. Pages with no printed balances are marked as not balance-checked.

  3. Flag and confirm

Regular transfers to people, large one-offs, standing orders and school fees are flagged with a reason. You mark each one as a gift, not a gift, or a loan. Rejected items stay in the record.

  4. Draft and record

You get a draft IHT403 schedule to check and file. You also get a report for your file: every account and month reviewed, each gap and what you did about it, and every decision.

Built for probate teams

Fixed-fee providers

Could you quote a fixed fee on estates with gifts if the gift trawl had a predictable cost? That's the question our pilot is testing with fixed-fee firms.

Private-client teams

Built so a paralegal can run the gift trawl, with a record of every account and month checked. If your trawls are already billed in full, the record may be the part you want.

Made for the UK

Built for UK bank statements and HMRC's IHT403, with the seven-year window set from the date of death. Your clients' statements will be hosted and processed in the UK.

What your file gets

  • A draft IHT403 gifts schedule, for your team to review and file.
  • A list of missing months and accounts, with the request letters to close them.
  • A report showing which accounts and months were reviewed, each gap and how it was handled, and who decided what. Useful if HMRC or a beneficiary asks how the gifts were identified.

Why now

For investors and anyone curious about the opportunity.

68,400

UK estates filed a full inheritance tax account in 2023 to 2024, and each one has to account for lifetime gifts.4

April 2027

Unused pensions start counting towards inheritance tax. HMRC expects about 10,500 more estates to owe tax and about 38,500 to pay more.5

By hand

We haven't found a tool built for the UK seven-year gift trawl. Today it's done in spreadsheets, or with a highlighter.

How we work

The executor decides.
Sevenyear flags items with a reason. People confirm what counts as a gift.
Every flag stays in the record.
Each flagged item will appear in the report with the decision and who made it, including the ones marked not a gift.
You file, we draft.
We never contact HMRC on anyone's behalf, and we never hold or move money.
Data will stay in the UK.
Statements will be hosted in the UK, encrypted, used only for your case, and deleted when the case closes. We'll confirm the UK processing arrangements with our providers before the first live firm.

Questions

What does the pilot involve?

A pilot firm gives us three to five recently finished estates where the gifts schedule is already done: the statements, with names and account numbers replaced, and the schedule you filed. You get our draft and report for each estate and a side-by-side comparison with your own. No live filing is touched. Join the list and we'll send the pilot terms once our solicitor has agreed the data terms.

Does it replace our judgement?

No. It does the first pass through the statements and the write-up. Your team decides what counts as a gift, and signs off the schedule.

Which statements can it read?

It's being built for PDFs downloaded or supplied by the bank first, then scans and phone photos of paper statements. Statements that show running balances can be checked page by page, so the request letters ask banks for them. A bank printout without balances can still be read, but gets other checks instead, such as matching the balance at the date of death.

Does it use AI?

Yes, in two places. Two different document-reading models read every page, and fixed rules check the balances and dates. Then rules and a model suggest which items look like gifts, each with a reason, for your team to confirm. Where they disagree, or a page doesn't add up, the page is flagged for your team to check. We'll only use providers whose terms bar training on your data.

What will it cost?

We expect to charge per estate, and we're setting the price with pilot firms.

Couldn't we just scan the statements and sort them in a spreadsheet?

You could, and many teams do. If a typical estate takes your team an afternoon in a spreadsheet, you may not need us. On the ones that don't, three things get hard. Turning seven years of PDFs, reprints and photos into clean rows takes most of the time, and every row still needs checking. A spreadsheet can't show you the statements you never received, such as an account that only appears as transfers. And sorting finds big one-offs but misses patterns like a monthly standing order to a grandchild. Sevenyear also keeps every flagged item with the decision and who made it, so your file shows what was checked.

Why not just use ChatGPT or Claude with a prompt?

For a few statements, it will read them well. It won't check each page against the balances the bank printed, show you which months and accounts are missing, keep the statement page behind each figure, or give the same answer next week. Sevenyear does that the same way on every estate and gives your team a draft schedule to check and file.

Can executors use it without a solicitor?

Not yet. We're starting with probate firms. If you're an executor, join the list and we'll tell you when that changes.

It usually starts with a box of statements on the kitchen table.

Sevenyear turns it into a draft schedule and a record of everything that was checked.
